I’m Here

Hey reader. It’s been a bit. I’m sorry about that. It’s been a little busy. My last post was on January 16th. Lightfall came out on February 28th. Probably pretty obvious why I was away from the blog for a bit. If you saw the Destiny 2 Year in Review or the Subclass Moments, I’m on the team that does that work. Anyway, it’s been busy so I’m dropping in to say, I’m here.

Code stuff

Not that I have had a ton of free time but I have been messing with some code stuff. I recently finished a React course on LinkedIn Learning specifically about Functional components. I had built XG Destiny Checklist using Class components and I don’t write React in my daily work, so Functional components were something I knew about but didn’t have much experience with. I feel much better after that course.

I’m also (slowly) learning C# and .net. I’m interested in expanding my knowledge outside of “just” HTML/CSS/JS and the frameworks (mainly React and Vue). Some of the basics have come very easily, like bringing packages to introduce new functionality to a component. Some stuff feels a little strange, like using Visual Studio instead of Visual Studio Code. I doubt I’ll ever really feel like a true C# programmer but it’s fun to try something new.

To Build or not to Build.

Speaking of which, Microsoft announced the dates for their Build conference this year. I’ve always wanted to go to something like this and now since I live in the area, it’s more realistic. It’s…not exactly cheap. Actually, it’s expensive. I don’t know…I’m still kicking around the idea. I work from home so I don’t get out very much anymore. This seems like a very good way to do that. SeattleJS has a monthly meeting, maybe I’ll start there.

Dani

Dani is doing great. He has gotten through his heartworm treatment and we have about an hour of walk time a day. Sometimes he runs with me. I gotta be honest, there are some days I just don’t feel like doing it. Then he looks at me with the “Dad can we go outside?!” look and it’s off we go.

Other stuff

I recently saw Scream 6. I loved it. It’s hard to be objective on it as I love those movies but I feel like it was pretty good. If they keep making them, I’ll keep going to see them.

The Last of Us was pretty good. I felt the first couple of episodes were stronger than the rest of the season. The pacing on a show like that can be challenging but overall, I enjoyed it.

As I type this, we are about to start Ted Lasso season 3. Succession starts again soon and that’s another show I’m a big fan of.

In general, I still feel like I’m out of my routine. Not really sure when the last time I felt like I had a consistent one was. Oh well. Just keep trying.
