How did I Operate?

I’m sitting here on the couch and I flipped on the Pelicans vs. Kings game. There is about 6 minutes of game clock left and it’s 9:15. I’m a little tired but not too bad.

When I was growing up, I had a really cool job. I was a team attendant* for the Cleveland Cavaliers. My love for basketball existed long before I had that job but it only grew, getting to be that close to the action. However, it led to some long nights.

I think the game I’m watching started at 7. It will likely end around 9:30 assuming nothing weird happens. When I was a kid, that means at the absolute earliest I’d be getting home between 10:30 and 11:00. If a game started at 8, which was common for national TV games, that would mean getting home at almost midnight.

I looked up the bell schedule of my high school. First period begins at 8am. I don’t remember when I got up but we walked to school and we lived 2 miles away, so we were definitely up before 7. We probably got up around 6am which is what I do now.

I look back on it now…there were probably plenty of nights where I was getting home from work a little before midnight and then up at 6am the next day for school.

Maybe things were just easier because I was a teenager operating on this schedule but I do look back now and wonder how I did this.

Looks like the Pelicans are going to win.
