The follow up to Green Day’s American Idiot is 21st Century Breakdown, and as a record, I enjoy it more than American Idiot. While I enjoy individual tune’s from American Idiot more than 21st Century Breakdown, there is one tune that stands out to me and it’s The Static Age.
As implied by the title, Billie Joe Armstrong reflects on how there is so much information, that you can’t actually see or hear anything. This was in 2009. 15 years later, man I feel this song in my bones. There are too many podcasts, too many algorithms, too much noise just begging for your attention at any given moment. It’s exhausting. I wish there was a big reset button on all of it.
