Things I Thought Were Cool This Week – 7/16/2023 Edition

Welcome back to another edition of “Things I Thought Were Cool”. Let’s get into it.

Wyatt’s Wish

The Bungie Foundation is a wonderful organization committed to helping others. A couple of weeks ago they released this video for Wyatt’s Wish. Wyatt wanted to meet some of the amazing folks who make Destiny 2 and the Foundation was able to provide that for him.

This is an incredibly moving piece. If you’ve read this far and haven’t seen this video, I think it’s worth your time. Honestly, I could stop the blog post here. Nothing is cooler than this.

Lightfall Legendary Campaign

I’ve recruited a couple of friends back into Destiny 2. One of the first orders of business was to complete the campaign to get Strand but we also wanted to do the Legendary campaign to get some high level loot. We managed to complete the campaign in one, very long day. I’m all caught up. Max power, season pass rank well over 100, so it was probably a little easier than it would’ve been in the first week but it was still a challenge. I think the younger versions of ourselves would’ve been very proud that at 30, we are still able to achieve such things.

I Learned Basket Case

In a non-gaming achievement…I finally sat down and learned Green Day’s Basket Case. Green Day is my favorite band I picked up the guitar 15-ish years ago to play their music. I can play all of the more recent records (American Idiot to today) but my ability and memory to play the pre-American Idiot stuff is a little more spotty. So I sat down and just figured out Basket Case. I’ll probably get all of Dookie under my belt before too long.

The…semi-pain-in-the-butt about Dookie is the whole record is played a half step down. As far as I can tell most of the record doesn’t have too many open chords so you can get away with playing in standard tuning and adjusting the position to play the right notes but it is a little quirk that if you’re not paying attention, makes learning those tunes by ear a little harder.

That’s it for this week. See you starside.
